Not All HVAC Systems Are Created Equal

Replacing your air conditioning and heating system is a major investment. Most homeowners only purchase a new HVAC system once every 10–20 years, yet many companies expect customers to make decisions quickly without fully understanding their options.

At Airsimplicity, we believe homeowners deserve honest information about:

  • system efficiency
  • equipment sizing
  • comfort differences
  • humidity control
  • warranties
  • energy savings
  • long-term repair costs

Our goal is to help you choose the right system for your home and budget — not simply sell the most expensive equipment.

What Is a SEER Rating?

SEER2 ratings measure the energy efficiency of an HVAC system. In general, the higher the SEER2 rating, the more efficiently the system operates, which can help reduce monthly utility bills.

Higher-efficiency systems can also improve comfort and humidity control, which is especially important in Southeast Texas. However, higher SEER2 ratings do not always mean the best value for every homeowner. As efficiency increases, the upfront equipment cost also increases, and the energy savings may eventually reach a point of diminishing returns.

Choosing the right system often comes down to balancing efficiency, comfort, long-term reliability, and budget.

Understanding HVAC System Types

Single Stage Systems

  • basic
  • affordable
  • full power or off

Two-Stage Systems

  • better comfort
  • quieter
  • improved humidity control

Variable Speed Systems

  • maximum comfort
  • energy savings
  • superior humidity removal
  • quieter operation
  • more advanced technology

Communicating system

What Is a Communicating HVAC System?

A communicating HVAC system uses advanced technology that allows the thermostat, indoor unit, and outdoor unit to constantly communicate with each other to improve comfort and efficiency.

Unlike traditional systems that simply turn on and off, communicating systems can automatically adjust airflow, cooling output, and operating speeds based on your home’s conditions.

Benefits of Communicating Systems

  • More consistent indoor temperatures
  • Improved humidity control
  • Higher energy efficiency
  • Quieter operation
  • Advanced system diagnostics
  • Better overall comfort

Things to Consider

  • Higher upfront cost
  • More advanced electronics and components
  • Repairs can sometimes be more expensive outside of warranty

Communicating systems are often a great option for homeowners looking for maximum comfort, efficiency, and advanced technology.

Bigger Is NOT Always Better

Many homeowners assume a larger HVAC system will cool better, but an oversized system can actually create comfort problems. Systems that are too large often short cycle, meaning they turn on and off too quickly without running long enough to properly remove humidity from the air. This can lead to uneven temperatures, a clammy feeling inside the home, and increased wear on equipment.

On the other hand, undersized systems may struggle to keep up during extreme Texas heat.

That’s why proper sizing matters.

Why We Perform Heat Load Calculations

Proper HVAC sizing involves much more than simply looking at square footage. A professional heat load calculation evaluates factors such as insulation levels, windows, home orientation, ceiling heights, ductwork, and air leakage to help determine the correct system size for your home. This helps improve comfort, efficiency, humidity control, and long-term system performance.

Why Humidity Control Matters in Southeast Texas

In Southeast Texas, controlling humidity is just as important as controlling temperature. An oversized HVAC system may cool the home quickly, but it often does not run long enough to properly remove moisture from the air. This can leave the home feeling damp or clammy and may contribute to mold and indoor air quality concerns.

Variable speed systems are designed to run longer at lower speeds, helping remove more humidity while maintaining more consistent comfort throughout the home.

Understanding HVAC Warranties

Parts Warranty

Most HVAC manufacturers include a parts-only warranty with their equipment. Warranty coverage can vary depending on the manufacturer, equipment model, and whether the system is properly registered after installation.

Many systems include:

  • 5-year parts and compressor warranty without registration
  • 10-year parts and compressor warranty with registration

In most cases, equipment must be registered within 60 days of installation to receive the extended coverage. To help simplify the process, we register the equipment for our customers after installation so they do not have to worry about it.

Labor Warranty

Most manufacturers do not include labor coverage with their warranties. Labor costs associated with diagnosing and replacing failed parts are typically separate from manufacturer warranty coverage.

Our residential equipment installations include a 1-year labor warranty from the date of installation for added peace of mind. Extended labor warranty options are also available.

Extended Labor Warranties

All of our residential HVAC systems can be purchased with optional extended warranty protection for added peace of mind. Coverage options are available ranging from 1 year up to 12 years and may include parts, labor, and even refrigerant coverage depending on the plan selected.

Extended warranties can help protect you from unexpected repair costs and provide long-term confidence in your heating and cooling investment.
